It has been reported that a small craft has come alongside a Malta-flagged tanker whilst underway, approximately 58nm South-southeast of Lome, Togo. Initial reports indicate that the crew have been able to retreat to the citadel, however it has not been confirmed if there were any ladders sighted, if the perpetrators were armed or that the vessel has been boarded. UPDATE: Further information has been received that at 02:00 UTC, a Togo military asset boarded the tanker and at 02:15 UTC confirmed that the vessel was clear, all the crew and the vessel was safe. The vessel is currently underway to Lome, Togo. Clearwater have also received further information indicating that up to eighteen persons had boarded the vessel. Clearwater will continue to investigate and update this alert upon receipt of confirmed information.
