Open-sources have reported that a Russian-flagged cargo vessel was struck by an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle whilst transiting the Mediterranean Sea off Crete Island on 5 September 2026 (exact position and time not specified). Reports state that the vessel was targeted by Ukrainian forces using drones equipped with munitions-dropping systems. The strike caused a small fire to break out onboard. The vessel had departed from the Algerian port of Oran and was reportedly on route towards Syria.
