It has been reported that a Liberia-flagged bulk carrier is under attack from several small craft, approximately 50nm Southwest of Hodeidah Port, Yemen. Initial reports indicate that the small craft fired multiple Rocket Propelled Grenades at the bulk carrier. This is an ongoing incident. UPDATE 1: Further information has been received indicating that up to three crew members have been injured, with one crew member trapped in the engine room. UPDATE 2: The Company Security Officer has informed the UKMTO that as of 07:10 UTC, the vessel has sustained significant damage and lost all propulsion. The vessel is surrounded by small craft and under continuous attack. UPDATE 3: Further information has been received from the Company Security Officer, informing that a search and rescue operation commenced overnight, and that five crewmembers have been rescued. The search is continuing for the remaining crew. UPDATE 4: It has been confirmed that the bulk carrier has sunk in vicinity of position 14° 27.52N 042° 21.21E. A Mauritius-flagged fishing vessel is assisting with the search and rescue operation. UPDATE 5: The Yemen Armed Forces have released a statement and video footage detailing that the bulk carrier was also attacked by an Unmanned Surface Vessel as well as ballistic missiles. UPDATE 6: EUNAVFOR have confirmed that three persons have lost their lives as a result of the attack and ten persons have now been rescued; eight persons are crew members of Filipino nationality and the other two persons are a Greek and Indian National who were part of the three-person security team. It is assessed that up to six persons are being held by the Houthis. UPDATE 7: EUNAVFOR have announced that the search for the remaining crew members has been suspended. It has been confirmed that four persons have been killed. At least eleven persons remain missing with either all or some assessed to have been taken by the Houthis. UPDATE 8: It has been reported by the Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs, that nine crew members who were being held by the Houthis, have been released and flown from Sanaa, Yemen to Muscat Oman. It is expected that the individuals will arrive back in the Philippines shortly.
