| It has been reported that a French-flagged research vessel was boarded by up to seven robbers whilst anchored off Wewak, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea. The perpetrators boarded the vessel from a motorised banana boat and were armed with homemade firearms, knives, and slingshots. The crew were threatened, the vessel was ransacked, and personal and professional electronic equipment was stolen before the robbers escaped heading East. One crew member sustained minor injuries from lead and aluminium debris after a shotgun round struck the wheelhouse bulkhead. | |||||
