It has been reported that there has been a kidnapping on a Ghana-flagged fishing vessel approximately 16nm South of Accra, Ghana. Initial reports indicate the vessel was boarded by pirates and that three crew members, reportedly of Chinese nationality are not accounted for. The fishing vessel has headed to Tema fishing harbour for further investigations to be conducted. Clearwater will continue to investigate and will update this alert on receipt of confirmed information. UPDATE: The MDAT-GoG have received further information stating that five armed pirates boarded the vessel from a blue and yellow striped boat. Four wore masks, two of which were armed with pistols, The fifth had two rifles believed to be AK-47's. Three warning shots were fired into the air and the crew were ordered to lay down on the deck. The perpetrators were casually dressed wearing t-shirts, one wearing overalls, and communicated in broken English. It has been confirmed that three crew members were kidnapped. |
