| JMIC (Joint Maritime Information Centre) shared a US Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT) update on enforcement of the blockade of all Iranian ports and coastlines. The update states that the blockade responds to Iran's continued aggression and attempts to control the Strait of Hormuz. Neutral vessels between neutral ports in the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz may be questioned, visited and searched. This applies to vessels carrying neutral cargo, regardless of flag or ownership, and to vessels in ballast. The aim is to confirm their intentions regarding the blockade. Vessels that do not need to transit the area are advised to remain well clear to avoid delays. The update advises neutral vessels to maintain a continuous listening watch on VHF Channel 16, follow all directions from US forces and be prepared to alter course or stop when directed. It also advises them to keep the following documents ready for review on request, as applicable. All must be signed or stamped and in PDF format: Port/Customs Clearance from the last port of call; Bill of Lading (if laden); Certificate of Registry; a signed or stamped Letter of Appointment (not an email) from the agent at the next port of call; receipts or signed contracts for provisions, bunkers, spare parts, repairs and/or crew change at the next port of call; and terminal, port or berth booking confirmation for the next port of call. Vessels transiting the area are advised to plan additional transit time, to allow for increased traffic density and blockade enforcement operations. | |||||
