| Open-sources have reported that U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) concluded an evening wave of strikes against Iran at 0100 UTC on 16 July 2026. U.S. forces targeted Iranian command centres, missile and drone capabilities, air defence sites and coastal surveillance facilities to further degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM used precision munitions to strike targets in multiple locations including Bandar Abbas (exact time and positions not specified). Earlier on 16 July 2026, American forces struck coastal defence and cruise missile sites on Greater Tunb Island during a 90-minute wave (exact time not specified). In response, Iran claimed to have carried out drone and missile strikes on U.S. military facilities in Jordan and Kuwait. The IRGC, in its Announcement No. 15, claimed responsibility for strikes on the U.S. military's Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait in the eighth wave of Operation Nasr 2.
