| Open-source have reported that the United States launched extensive military strikes against Iranian targets over a two-day period on 7-8 July (exact time not specified) in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that its forces struck more than 80 targets with precision munitions, including Iranian air defence systems, coastal radar sites, and 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) small boats. In response to the US strikes, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) subsequently reported conducting a joint missile and drone operation targeting 85 sites at U.S. military facilities. The IRGC stated the strikes targeted the U.S. Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain and Ali Al-Salem airbase in Kuwait. The IRGC described the operation as an initial response to what it characterised as a U.S. violation of the ceasefire and the Islamabad agreement. The IRGC also stated the U.S. attacks targeted coastal bases and non-military stations in Hormozgan and Mahshahr. | |||||
