| Open-sources have reported that an Emirati-flagged dhow has been hijacked and subsequently abandoned by Somali pirates in the Arabian Sea (exact time and position not specified). Security officials in Somalia's Puntland region confirmed that the lemon-laden dhow was seized in late April by an eleven-member pirate group approximately 10nm off the coastal town of Dhinowda in northeastern Somalia. The pirates departed from an area near the port of Garacad, approximately 600km north of Mogadishu, before hijacking the vessel. The pirates abandoned the dhow after failing to use the vessel to launch attacks on other ships. There are currently no reports on the status of the crew or the current location of the vessel. | |||||
