The MSCIO have reported that a tanker was approached by suspicious craft whilst underway, approximately 488nm Southeast of Hobyo, Somalia. A possible mothership crossed the vessel from starboard to port at a closest point of approach of approximately 1.2nm. A small craft was then sighted ahead and approached from the starboard bow to within approximately 400 metres. The tanker executed evasive manoeuvres, increased speed, and the armed security team onboard displayed weapons which resulted in the small craft aborting its approach. The crew are reported safe and accounted for.
