It has been reported that a robbery occurred on a Bangladesh-flagged general cargo whilst anchored at Mongla, Bangladesh. Fourteen robbers armed with an assortment of locally made weapons boarded the vessel via a fishing trawler and proceeded to subdue and restrain the vessels seven crew members, before proceeding to loot the ship. The perpetrators stole items of ship's property including a large quantity of fuel oil and the crew's mobile phones, estimated to value approximately $40,000 in fuel and $18,000 in equipment. Some of the crew were reportedly beaten for attempting to resist or sound the alarm, and three personnel required medical aid following the incident. The vessel has been laid up in the port since June 2024 due to mechanical issues. |
