The UKMTO has reported that there has been an attack on a vessel approximately 54nm Southwest of Aden, Yemen (exact position not specified). UPDATE 1: Vessels in the vicinity have reported a loud bang, and a large plume of smoke sighted. UPDATE 2: A merchant vessel in the vicinity is reported to have been hit and has suffered damage. Clearwater have received additional information that indicates some of the crew have taken to lifeboats. UPDATE 3: UKMTO have reported that the vessel has been abandoned and is not under control. Initial open source reports have indicated that the Barbados-flagged bulk carrier was hit by a missile, three crew members are unaccounted for and four crew have sustained substantial burn injuries. Coalition Forces are supporting. UPDATE 4: The UK Embassy to Yemen have confirmed that at least two sailors have died in the incident. The vessel owners have issued a statement confirming that twenty crew were onboard the bulk carrier, consisting of fifteen Filipino, four Vietnamese and one Indian national. There were also three members of an armed security team onboard of two Sri Lankan and one Nepalese national. The bulk carrier is reported to be drifting with a fire still burning onboard. The vessel owners also confirm the bulk carrier is owned and operated by a Greek company and has no current connection with any "US entity". UPDATE 5: Further information from U.S. forces state that three fatalities have been reported, and that three of the injured crew are in a critical condition. The reports also state that the bulk carrier has sustained significant damage. UPDATE 6: A Navigation Warning has been issued effective from 08:15 UTC 7th March 2024 regarding the bulk carrier being abandoned and adrift in position 11° 54.20 N, 044° 29.30 E. The vessel owners have also confirmed that one Vietnamese and two Filipino crew members had lost their lives, and two more Filipino crew had serious injuries. Clearwater will continue to investigate and update this report upon receipt of confirmed information.
