Open-sources have reported that two Romanian Air Force F-16 aircraft were scrambled after a small maritime drone carrying explosives was detected drifting in Romania's Exclusive Economic Zone, near the Neptun Alpha platform, approximately 80 nautical miles east of Constanța (approximate position). The Romanian Ministry of National Defence stated that the drone's presence was reported by a commercial vessel at 06:28 UTC. One of the F-16 aircraft engaged the target using its onboard cannon, striking the drone. A Romanian Coast Guard vessel, with an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from the Romanian Naval Forces onboard, was deployed to the area to conduct further checks. This incident follows the discovery and controlled destruction of two GERBERA-type drones in the same area on 11 August 2026.
