It has been reported that a Malta-flagged tanker is on fire approximately 8nm Northwest of Kumzar, Oman (exact position not specified). The cause of the fire has not been verified at this time. UPDATE 1: The UKMTO have issued further information received from the CSO stating that the vessel was struck by an unknown projectile. The fire had not been extinguished, and the crew have been forced to abandon the vessel. The vessel is currently adrift. UPDATE 2: Open-source articles have reported that the vessel has now been seized by Iran and towed into its territorial waters.
