The UKMTO have reported that Saint Vincent and the Grenadines-flagged cargo vessel has been approached by multiple small craft carrying armed persons onboard, approximately 76nm South of Balhaf, Yemen. The crew have mustered in the citadel and are reported safe. A third-party vessel in the area have reported small arms fire over VHF channel 16 although this is currently unconfirmed. UPDATE 1: The UKMTO have been informed that the suspicious small craft has now departed from the vessel but remains active in the area and could possibly be a risk to other vessels. The CSO reports the vessel has minor damage on the bridge and confirms it’s one suspicious small craft with 4 persons on board, armed with an RPG. UPDATE 2: The UKMTO have issued further information gained from the Captain and have reclassified this incident as a boarding. The crew remain secure in the citadel and are reported safe. UPDATE 3: MSCIO has received confirmation that the crew is safe and that the vessel is under the crew’s control. No pirates are reported to be onboard. The vessel has resumed navigation.
