| Open-sources have reported that a rescue vessel came under armed attack from a Libyan militia boat whilst operating approximately 55nm North of Tripoli, Libya (exact time and position not specified). The incident occurred in the morning shortly after the crew had completed the rescue of ninety people in distress. A Libyan militia boat approached the vessel and crew aboard the patrol boat fired approximately ten to fifteen shots at the rescue vessel. The militia conveyed their intent to board the vessel and take it, along with all occupants, to Libya. The crew transmitted a mayday distress call and contacted authorities in Italy and Germany. Two Libyan patrol boats pursued the rescue vessel as it headed north, away from Tripoli and towards safety. After several hours, the Libyan boats ceased their harassment of the vessel. | |||||
