It has been reported that an incident occurred on a Kuwait-flagged tanker whilst anchored, approximately 26nm Northwest of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The Master of a Singapore-flagged tanker in the area reported sighting that the starboard bow of the tanker was on fire.The Master then heard over VHF, that the tanker involved in the incident had contacted Port Rashid, advising that cause of the fire was due to the tanker being hit by an unmanned vehicle. The incident has been reported to the UKMTO who are investigating. UPDATE 1: The UKMTO have received a report from the Company Security Officer confirming that the crew are accounted for and safe and there has been no environmental impact. UPDATE 2: The UKMTO have received a further update from the Company Security Officer confirming that fire has been extinguished and no environmental implications have resulted from the strike. The UKMTO have not been able to be determined the source of the projectile at this time.
