The UKMTO have reported an increase of GNSS interference, including "AIS speed anomalies" from vessels operating in the UKMTO Voluntary Reporting Area between the 3rd and 7th of October 2025. It is encouraged that all vessels transiting the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz continue vigilant watch-standing to include recognising all GNSS interference and also recommending not relying entirely on electronic navigation methods and/or autopilot, whilst transiting through areas prone to GNSS interference. Further, JMIC recommends prudency for mariners to consider using traditional non-electronic means of position-fixing to crosscheck the vessels position whilst navigating coastal or congested waters. All vessels operating within the UKMTO VRA who experience disruptions to electronic navigation systems such as GNSS, AIS, or, other Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) systems are strongly encouraged to note the locations and times of disruption. Photographs or videos of ships electronics or navigation system(s) (if impacted) are also requested, in reports to UKMTO as soon as is practicable. |
