It has been reported by the UKMTO that there have been several incidents in which merchant vessels have received VHF radio challenges and requests to alter course in the Northern Persian Gulf. It is assessed that these are likely part of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) naval exercise, Great Prophet XVIII. These exercises have warned mariners that vessels in or near Iranian territorial waters may experience VHF hailing.
