It has been reported that a kidnapping has occurred onboard a fishing vessel whilst operating in the waters of Benin. Initial reports indicated that the vessel was boarded by five armed pirates approximately 9 nm southeast from the port of Cotonou. The pirates kidnapped the Master, of Chinese origin, and stole personal items from the crew. It is reported that the Benin Republic Navy sent a military vessel to assist. The vessel is currently docked in Cotonou Port. Authorities are investigating.
