It has been reported by the UKMTO that a vessel has been attacked 31nm Southwest of Hodeidah, Yemen (exact position not specified). The authorities are currently investigating. UPDATE 1: The Master reported to the UKMTO that the vessel has been hit by missiles and sustained damage. Later, at 10:40 UTC the Master also reported an impact on the water in close proximity to the vessel. Clearwater have also received confirmation that the vessel involved is a Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier. UPDATE 2: The vessel was subject of a further missile attack approximately 33nm West of Mocha, Yemen at 15:33 UTC. Position: 13° 25’ 13 N 042° 41’ E. The vessel has sustained further damage, the crew are reported safe and the vessel is proceeding to its next port of call. UPDATE 3: The French Navy has confirmed that an Air Defence Frigate operating nearby provided immediate assistance to the bulk carrier following the attacks and escorted the vessel out of the area. A French demining team based in Djibouti, supported by Italian soldiers conducted an inspection of the damage to ensure no residual hazardous material was present. Images show damage to the top of one of the bulk carrier’s cargo bays and a hole in the port side of the vessel which is level with the waterline.
