It has been reported by the UKMTO that they have received information of an attack approximately 45nm South of Aden, Yemen (Exact position not specified). Authorities are investigating. Vessels are advised to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO. UPDATE 1: The UKMTO have now confirmed that the attack occurred 50nm South of Mocha, Yemen. The Master of the vessel has reported an explosion occurred 100 metres off the starboard side. No injuries or damage have been reported, the vessel and crew are reported as safe. UPDATE 2: Further information has been received, confirming that the incident involved an American-flagged container vessel. The container vessel was sailing with another American-flagged container vessel under a scheduled escort from a U.S. Naval vessel. It is reported that three anti-ship ballistic missiles were fired towards the container ship, one impacted on the water and the other two missiles were destroyed by the Naval vessel. |
