The UKMTO have reported that a vessel has been boarded by unauthorised persons 50nm East of Sohar, Oman. The Company Security Officer informed the UKMTO that unknown voices have been heard on the telephone along with the Master's voice and further contact with the vessel has not been possible at this time. The authorities are currently investigating. UPDATE 1: The UKMTO have received further information that up to five armed perpetrators have boarded the vessel and are reported to be wearing black, military style uniforms and black masks. UPDATE 2: The Company Security Officer has confirmed that the vessel has altered course towards Iranian territorial waters. UPDATE 3: Further confirmed information has been released stating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have seized the Marshall Islands Flagged tanker. The tanker is reported to have loaded in Basrah with 145,000 metric tonnes of crude Oil destined for Aliaga in Turkey and that there are nineteen crew onboard consisting of eighteen Philippine nationals and one Greek national. UPDATE 4: Further information has been received that the tanker is now located in the anchorage of the Larak/Qeshm Islands in position 27° 00.24’ N 056° 17.43’ E. UPDATE 5: The youngest crew member of the seized tanker has been safely released. The remaining eighteen crew members remain onboard the tanker and are reported to be in good health. UPDATE 6: Open source reports that Iran and the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs have reached an agreement in which eleven of the Filipino crewmembers will be released however, they will be replaced by others supplied by the manning agency. |
