The UKMTO have been informed by military authorities of an incident in the vicinity of Eyl, Somalia (exact location not specified). Clearwater have received further information that a dhow has been hijacked by twenty heavily armed persons. UPDATE 1: Local police authorities have reported that there are two hijacked dhows in the vicinity of Eyl. At least one is heading North, which they believe could be used for piracy against vessels transiting along the Yemeni coastline. UPDATE 2: The UKMTO have received further information that one of the fishing vessels was hijacked 13km North of Eyl, Somalia. Military authorities assess the vessel may be used for future piracy attacks and is described as follows: Name: EMARAT-2 Colour: White Length: 17.7M Breadth: 4M Depth: 2.1M UPDATE 3: The IMB have received information that one of the hijacked dhows is reported to be heading towards the IRTC. Vessels are advised to remain well clear of the dhow. UPDATE 4: Further information has been received that the second fishing dhow has been named as the FATA AL KHAIR. |
