Open-source reports state that last month, Ukrainian forces were able to seize control of several oil platforms known as the "Boyko Towers" near Crimea, in the Black Sea (exact location not specified). The platforms have been under Russian control since 2015, shortly after Russia annexed Crimea. A statement and video released by Ukrainian Military Intelligence, shows troops in rigid inflatable boats, boarding the platforms and removing supplies, including radar equipment. The video commentary states that Russian forces had installed ammunition and fuel warehouses for helicopters on the platforms, after the invasion of Ukraine. The commentary also states that radar stations were placed on the towers to further monitor all situations in the Black Sea. It is reported that this operation was conducted to weaken Russian control in the Black Sea and help create a zone of relative safety for vessels to sail to the grain ports in Odessa and on the Danube River. The Russian Defence Ministry has not commented on the claim. |
