It has been reported that warning shots were fired from a Russian warship on a Palau-flagged cargo vessel heading towards the port of Izmail, Ukraine. In a Russian statement, it was reported that the warning shots were fired after the cargo vessel's Captain had failed to respond to requests for the vessel to stop and be inspected. The cargo vessel did stop following the warning shots and Russian military personnel boarded from a Ka-29 helicopter to conduct an inspection. Once the inspection had been completed, the cargo vessel continued on her voyage. A senior Ukrainian presidential adviser stated on the social media platform X that Russia's actions were a "clear violation of international law of the sea, an act of piracy and a crime against civilian vessels of a third country in the waters of other states." |
