The U.S. Naval Forces Central Command have confirmed that a Panama-flagged oil tanker has been seized by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp whilst underway in the Strait of Hormuz, approximately 32nm Northeast of Khasab, Oman. Video footage shows that up to twelve fast-attack vessels swarmed the tanker, forcing the vessel to reverse her course and head toward Iranian territorial waters off the coast of Bandar Abbas, Iran. UPDATE: Further information has been received that the tanker is now located in the anchorage of the Larak/Qeshm Islands in position 26° 56.55’ N 056° 23.38’ E. Clearwater will continue to investigate and will update this alert on receipt of confirmed information. |
