The MDAT-GoG have been informed by a Company Security Officer, that a tanker has been boarded by a number of perpetrators approximately 300nm South of Abidjan, Ivory Coast. UPDATE 1: The MDAT-GoG have reported that the tanker has not yet been located and is not transmitting on AIS. The tanker is described as having a red hull and blue funnel with a white and red logo on the side. The vessel's last known position was 07°.14' N 004° 34.14' W at 1400 UTC, 10th April 2023. The MDAT-GoG are requesting that all Masters within the vicinity are to keep a lookout for the tanker and to report any sighting or suspicious activity. UPDATE 2: THE IMB have confirmed that the tanker involved is the SUCCESS 9 (IMO - 9258131) and also included that the vessel’s superstructure is white. UPDATE 3: The MDAT-GoG have corrected their original description of the tanker, it is described as having a black hull and white funnel with blue stripes. The incident is ongoing, Clearwater will continue to investigate and will update this alert upon the receipt of confirmed information. UPDATE 4: MDAT-GOG have confirmed that the vessel has been located in position 04°56' N 003°59' W. 65nm South East of Abidjan. The vessel and crew are safe and accounted for. UPDATE 5: It has been confirmed that twelve pirates boarded the tanker and that a quantity of cargo was transferred to another vessel before the pirates escaped. |
