It has been reported that three vessels have been damaged from explosions in the Bystre mouth of the Danube River (Exact locations not specified). A hydrographic vessel collided with an explosive device and was damaged below the waterline on 28th July 2022, the crew were able to save the ship from sinking and no casualties were reported. The Ukrainian Sea Port Authority then confirmed that a Pilot vessel collided with an explosive device on 31st July 2022. The vessel was again damaged below the waterline and the crew were evacuated onto a Marine Guard vessel that arrived to assist. The third incident occurred in the evening of 3rd August 2022 where a floating crane collided with an explosive device and sustained minor damage. The crane was able to be pushed back to it's base of operations and no casualties were reported. As a result of each of these incidents, the movement of vessels around the Bystre mouth has been temporarily restricted. Despite speculation that each vessel had struck a sea mine, the reports state that the exact type of ammunition has not been confirmed and is being determined by experts. Clearwater will continue to investigate these incidents and will update should further information be received. |
