Exact coordinates not specified. It has been reported that a local fishing vessel was attacked by pirates whilst underway in the waters of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The report states that five pirates armed with guns, fired shots in the air before boarding the fishing vessel. The perpetrators then took the fishing vessel and twenty-eight crew members, both male and female, to a nearby creek where some of the crew were beaten before their possessions, including cash were taken. One of the crew had managed to phone the local government chairman as the attack was taking place, who notified the police commissioner. A marine patrol vessel was dispatched which located the fishing vessel eight hours later. All twenty-eight crew members were accounted for but the pirates had escaped. |
